We are now a Family Search Affiliate Library!
FamilySearch.org offers access to many worldwide digitized records that other genealogy databases do not, so I always encourage patrons to use FamilySearch.org to compliment their family history research. While folks can currently access some Family Search records from their home computer, they can now access additional restricted FamilySearch.org records at computers in both buildings and when connected to our WiFi. Patrons will need to create their own account at FamilySearch.org, which they will log in to each time. Some patrons may already have accounts, which they can use in-house to access additional records. They can also create their own public family trees and download/print the documents they find.
Users may occasionally come across records that can only be accessed at an LDS Family History Library, which are located on Terryville Road in Port Jefferson Station (VERY limited hours) and Plainview. This shouldn’t happen very often.
I do think the database is pretty easy to navigate, but if anyone would like a training I’d be happy to sit down with you. Please encourage any patrons who would like additional help to schedule a one-on-one appointment: https://www.mcplibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Genealogy-Research-Appt-Form.pdf
