Overdue Fines – What’s Changing?
Why is Middle Country Public Library getting rid of most overdue fines?
The library’s goal is to ensure its patrons are able to access all the books and services it has to offer. Overdue fines can prevent some patrons, especially children, from checking out books and other materials. MCPL does not rely on overdue fines to run the library.Which items will still have overdue fines?
Overdue fines will still be charged on the following collections, because of their limited size and popularity: Video Games, Museum Passes, Library of Things, and Games Collection.
Sharing Our Stories: An Intergenerational Oral History Project
We are pleased to announce the Kline Family Foundation has awarded the Middle Country Library Foundation a $22,000 grant to support “Sharing Our Stories: An Intergenerational Oral History Project,” an initiative bringing senior citizens and teens in the Middle Country community together to bridge the generation gap and strengthen connections among community members. As part of this unique project, the MCPL Media Teens group will interview and film seniors from the local community about their life experiences for a special documentary film produced at the library.
MCPL is looking for seniors from the local community who are interested in sharing their notable stories and memories on camera in the spring of 2019; those interested in being interviewed may fill out an application available at any reference desk or contact Jim Ward at 631-585-9393 ext. 273. Selden 24-hour Drive-up Return
A 24-hour drive-up return is now available at the Selden building. Library materials returned here will be immediately taken off your card, and items can be returned even when the library is closed.
Reflections
More than 500 glass tiles created by community members working with library staff and Kathryn Seff culminated in a stunning outdoor art installation at the library’s Selden location.
This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Huntington Arts Council. Additional support provided by the Friends of the Middle Country Public Library.
